Karen Desoto Hispanic on the MoveHispanic Outlook in Higher Education Magazine named Karen to their list of people On The Move in October 2011. Karen Desoto is an active attorney at law. She graduated from Temple university with a Jusis Docatorate, and served as a prosecutor, public defender, the corporate counsel for the city of Jersey City (working for Mayor Cunningham), founded her private practice law firm, the Center for Legal Justice.

Karen Desoto has been and remains involved in her community. She was honored by the Bayonne Youth Center as humanitarian of the year; she is a Mentor and Trustee of the Cunningham Foundation and sits on the Board of Directors of the Head Start Program for Jersey City, the Hudson County Hispanic Coalition, and the Beth Miriam homeless shelter project.

She is also a member of the Board of Trustees for New Jersey City University (nominated to that post by Governor Chirstie), and also established the Ray of Hope Foundation for Children, a group that offers aid to terminally ill children and their families.

Karen DeSoto commenced her career as a Criminal Defense Attorney, where she emphatically represented needy criminal defendants on indictable offenses through trial and appellate review.
